Winterpark’s Toy Harmonium Ableton Live 9 pack

So I recently found this funny little keyboard at Camberwell Market. It’s a Toy Harmonium probably from the late 50’s or early 60’s.

I was immediately drawn to it not only because of the awesome colours on the keys, but also by the completely crazy whirring noise that it makes even before you press any keys down!

It sort of inspired me to make a sample based instrument from it. So… enter the new Ableton Live 9 which I have been playing around with.

I created this sample-based instrument using the Toy Harmonium and a bunch of the new Max for Live gadgets that are in Live 9, and also a kind of generative music type demo.

      It’s a .alp file. Live 9 should automatically unpack it and then you can open the live set it creates.

    I love this pack. It’s super useful. THanks so much for posting it.

    I’m also using it to teach myself about some of the new Live 9 devices. I know you probably don’t want to give away all of your secrets, but could you tell me what the Envelope Follower on the generative track is modulating? I hate that with Max plugins, you can’t hover over with a mouse and see.

      Hi Craig, It is modulating the EQ8 with a Low Pass Filter on the Toy Noise track. Glad you like it!

    Please help with installing.

    When i install it on whatever location i can’t find it anymore within Ableton search (meaning ABleton can’t find it anymore….).

      Hi there, only ‘Official’ alps install in Live 9 automatically, and place themselves in the Packs folder. It is an issue that is out of my control unfortunately.

      But to answer your problem… once you get past that dialog box asking you where to install, choose a location. Then go to that location in your browser, and open the Live Set that the .Als installed.

      If, after playing with the instrument, you want to keep it, I recommend that you save it into your User Library in the ‘ambient and evolving’ category. This way it will appear in the automated browser searches.

    hi, in 64bit Live 9.1.1, Max 6.1.6
    trying to open this Toy Harmonium live set crashes live.

      Hey Slm, I’ve just downloaded it, and opened it up the .alp in 64 bit with 9.1.1 and 6.1.5, and it works fine. A little slow on the install… have you had luck yet? I havn’t got max 6.1.6 as of yet.

      Not the full suite, but you do need Sampler, Live 9 and Max for Live.
