Matt Ridgway is a Melbourne-based music educator, composer, and music tech specialist with over 20 years of experience. As an Ableton Certified Trainer and Teenage Engineering #EMS Mentor he’s passionate about sharing his knowledge of music production and technology with artists and educators alike.
Currently working as an Education Development Manager for Ableton in Australia and New Zealand, Matt helps support global education initiatives, runs teacher training sessions, and creates resources that make it easier to bring music technology into classrooms.
When he’s not teaching or presenting at conferences, Matt creates atmospheric electronica under the name Winterpark, combining lush guitar-based soundscapes with cutting-edge production techniques. His music has won awards (including the Excellence in Audio Award at the Australian Game Developer Awards) and featured on TV shows, ads, and more. He’s also worked on sound design projects for Loopmasters and developed content for the Melodics app.
With a Bachelor of Education from the University of Melbourne and years of hands-on teaching experience, Matt has worked across schools, TAFE, and higher education. At SRCS, he teaches everything from band instruments to electronic music production, helping students find their sound and develop their performance skills.
Beyond the classroom, Matt has contributed to curriculum design for the VCAA and created teaching materials for Ableton. He’s also organized events like the Process Sonic Forum and facilitated the Ableton User Group Melbourne, connecting creative communities and fostering innovation in music tech.
Whether he’s running workshops, mentoring teachers, or crafting new sounds, Matt’s all about making music creation accessible, exciting, and inspiring.
