Last year I went on a family holiday to Japan.
The ultimate musical travel companion is the OP-1 Field. I love it for a number of reasons – Firstly, it’s super light and portable, and can easily fit in my backpack alongside other every day essentials. Secondly, it has a really long battery life and charges over USB-C, which is very useful when travelling. Thirdly, it has an built in FM radio that you can sample directly from.
This is my absolute favourite thing to do during down-time travelling – finding a local FM radio and sampling from it.
Whilst in Kyoto, I found a fantastic radio station playing a bunch of great music that I never heard before. I went about sampling some of it, splicing, re-arranging, transforming it into unique snippets of loops that I could build musical loops around.
I recently re-discovered these loops and thought I’d quickly capture them on video.
